COMEDY
JONATHAN GOLDSTEIN (Canada)

“something between borscht-belt comedy and Franz Kafka” – Montreal Gazette

"[pitting] the absurd against the plausible. The sense is of a world not completely unlike our own that runs parallel... conversation, storytelling and introspection, culled from equal parts real-world experience and the warp of Goldstein's imagination." – Toronto Star

Back with new stories and his one-of-a-kind hilarious mania!

An evening of new adventures and stories with humourist Jonathan Goldstein. The former celebrated host and creator of CBC’s Wiretap, Goldstein has a new podcast for Gimlet Media, Heavyweight, which has been listed as one of ‘the best’ by iTunes, The Atlantic Monthly, The Guardian and other publications.

A frequent contributor to NPR's This American Life and The New York Times Magazine, with essays published by the New York Times, National Post and GQ Magazine, Jonathan Goldstein's signature brand of wry, self deprecating humour is Canadian to the core.

COMEDY
DEB FILLER (New Zealand/Canada)
I DID IT MY WAY IN YIDDISH (IN ENGLISH)!

“Filler is a complete chameleon, transforming herself instantly into dozens of relatives and accents ... exhilarating and liberating.” – The Independent (London)

“Filler, a gifted mimic...has tapped into the same vein of self-deprecating attitude many great comics that has never been more aptly applied than here.” – New York Newsday

“extraordinary work, an extraordinary story-teller...” – Village Voice

In this international smash hit, New Zealand’s only Jewish comic entertains with a brilliant evening of stories and songs that audiences won’t forget. Among others, Filler recounts funny, moving, stories of her meetings with the “Lennys” – Leonard Cohen, Leonard Bernstein and another Jewish musician called Lenny!

Travel along with Deb Filler as she journeys around the world on this jam-packed music-filled show, with just a guitar and a raft of loveable characters she creates.

“the funniest woman in Canada” – The Toronto Star

THEATRE
WE KEEP COMING BACK (Canada/Poland)
Created by Michael Rubenfeld and Sarah Garton Stanley
with Mary Berchard and Katka Reszke

Real-life son and mother – Michael Rubenfeld and Mary Berchard – together attempt to capture the truth of a Polish-Jewish reality that keeps changing and is near impossible to contain. Mary’s health started to fail, and so in
a desire to grow closer to his mother, Michael proposed that they go to Poland together to find their family’s roots. When in Poland, however, they discover that there is a new generation of unexpected Jews living there, and a far more complex version of contemporary Poland than they had bothered to consider.

Presented in a media rich environment, incorporating video footage from the actual trip and archival material, it explores universal themes of identity, loss, and family trauma, unexpected humour, the shadows of war and the promise of writing a new narrative.
