THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH
It's not the end of the world.....or is it?

by Thornton Wilder
Directed by Sarah Rodgers
Supported by the Theatre Arts Advisory Committee

Studio 58, the nationally renowned professional theatre training program at Langara College, continues the 52nd season with Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH. As pertinent today as when it was written during World War II, The Skin of Our Teeth celebrates humanity's resilience in the face of climate change, floods, fire, plague and war. The cast of colourful characters includes the Antrobus family, their maid Sabina, a pet dinosaur and a woolly mammoth. Combining tragedy with comedy, wit, intelligence and imagination, the play, as Francis Fergusson wrote, is 'a marriage of Plato and Groucho Marx.'

Written in 1942, THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH was Wilder's 6th play and would win him his 3rd Pulitzer Prize. The play opened on Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre, directed by Elia Kazan (On the Waterfront, Streetcar Named Desire) and starred Tallulah Bankhead, Fredric March, Florence Eldridge and Montgomery Clift. It went on to play for 355 performances, considered his theatrical masterpiece and broke nearly every theatrical convention of the time.

Bringing this classic work to the stage is the exceptional creative team of: Director Sarah Rodgers (Innocence Lost, The Thirteenth Chair, Ash Girl), Set Designer David Roberts (Innocence Lost, Attempts on Her Life, Smart People), Costume Designer Sheila White (TV – Imaginary Mary, The Trustee; Opera - Dead Man Walking), Lighting Designer Itai Erdal (Topdog / Underdog, The Komagata Maru Incident, Unite Model), Musical Director and Composer Joelysa Pankanea (A Christmas Carol (Gateway), You Will Remember MeMatthieu Mathématiques) and Projection Designer Emily Cooper (Deux Ans de Votre Vie, Dressing for a Wedding).
