It plays Tuesdays through Sundays on the BMO Mainstage, in Bard's 742-seat custom-built Mainstage Theatre tent in Vanier Park from June 13 to September 13, 2013 Canadian director KIM COLLIER returns to Bard on the Beach (Titus Andronicus) to direct this modern adaptation. A ruler's ghost cries out for revenge and a towering tragedy is set in motion. Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is confronted by betrayal and murder. On the verge of giving up all hope, he's still driven by an insatiable quest for truth. His struggle for answers ultimately spares no one, triggering a shocking chain of events. The production unfolds in a 21st century world of powerful, privileged leaders and so we see our own times through the lens of Hamlet's brilliant but anguished mind. The iconic story is also an ageless reminder of the terrible damage done to any culture by those who seek power at the expense of their humanity. The BMO Mainstage company features JONATHON YOUNG as Hamlet, BARBARA POLLARD as his mother Gertrude, BILL DOW as his murdering uncle Claudius, and JENNIFER LINES as his old friend Horatio. RACHEL CAIRNS plays Hamlet's sweetheart Ophelia with RICHARD NEWMAN as her interfering old father Polonius, and TODD THOMSON as her brother Laertes. DUNCAN FRASER is Hamlet's father's Ghost, The Player and the First Gravedigger, while DANIEL DOHENY, ANDREW MCNEE, ROBERT OLGUIN and ALLAN ZINYK play numerous characters including other Players of the court. NAOMI WRIGHT and CRAIG ERICKSON are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. For the BMO Mainstage, set designer PAM JOHNSON has created a simple and elegant set enhanced by the contemporary costume design of NANCY BRYANT. An original and moody score composed by TORQUIL CAMPBELL AND CHRIS DUMONT OF MEMPHIS sets the somber tone of political charge and madness while CONOR MOORE brings 'as it unfolds' projection design to the story; GERALD KING is the lighting designer and NICHOLAS HARRISON is the fight director for this production and David McCormick assists as the Fight Consultant. Stage Manager STEPHEN COURTENAY is assisted by KELLY BARKER (Assistant Stage Manager) and TESSA GUNN (Apprentice Stage Manager).
