DIRTY LITTLE MONKEY PRODUCTIONS AND SECOND BEST BIRD THEATRE COMPANY PRESENT THE WORLD PREMIERE OF ‘BORDERLINES’ We are here. We are one. We are home. Look beside you. Is there a bright, promising, Spanish-speaking man of Latino descent in your life? An Edgardo? A Carlos? An Alfonso? - doctors, business professionals, artists – passionate men, one and all. Just imagine the travail of the ones that went before – the journey their families took to arrive here. Borderlines is the story of a group of young men facing the struggle to find one’s way in a world that awaits their failure. Written by father & son playwrights Alfonso Velis Tobar and Juan Carlos Velis, it encompasses all the good, the bad and the ugly that exists in us all as we scramble to find a place for ourselves in a world that won’t let us fit. This world premiere play, brought to you by Dirty Little Monkey Productions and Second Best Bird Theatre Company (From Parts Unknown), tells us important stories of individuals crossing personal and physical borderlines and asks us to consider for a single moment what standing in their shoes might be like. On the road to understanding their arduous trip, you may discover them standing beside you. Playing five characters, Juan Carlos Velis takes us to both sides of the border. This touching one-man production is co-directed by Natalie Ackers and Joshua Reynolds with costume designer Courtenay Hindemit, lighting designer Brent Rossington and stage manager Alex Currie. They are here. They are us. They are home.
Borderlines runs November 6th to 17th Tuesday to Saturday at Playwrights Theatre Centre on Granville Island, 1398 Cartwright Street.
