Debbie Does Dallas (The Musical)
How far would you go to pursue your dream?

Pickled Productions, fresh off their successful run of Hedwig and The Angry Inch, which received 6 nominations at the 2007 Community Theatre Coalition Awards (CTC’s), will present another wild, wacky and fun-filled show, Debbie Does Dallas (The Musical), at the Media Club, Nov. 13–24, moving to The Odyssey Night Club, Nov. 27–Dec. 15. Come cheer Debbie on, but don’t be too shocked about what lengths some people will go to get what they want in life.

It's Debbie's dream to become a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader, and she gets the opportunity, except for one problem. Her parents don’t feel cheerleading is a good career choice and won’t give her the money to travel to Dallas. But her friends will help and Teen Services is born. The girls are willing to use their time and talents to do anything their clients might require. Odd jobs washing cars, sorting candles and boxes quickly give way to more lustful pursuits, forcing the girls to question their limits and concepts of morality.   Peter Birnie headlined his review of Hedwig with “Angry Inch is a rude romp that’s well worth catching.” And so will be Debbie Does Dallas.  Local actor Jamie Robinson, part of the Blue and White Brigade for the Vancouver Whitecaps, will play Debbie.

The other dazzling local cast members include Laura Wilson, Lee McKeown, Claire Lindsay, Victoria Nestorowicz, Ryan Egan, Antonio Olivito and Adam Lolacher. Randie Parliament will direct and accompanying him will be Steven Greenfield, music director. You’ll find lurking behind the scenes Jason Franco, choreographer; Laura Leone Hancock, costumes; Heather Young, stage manager; Theresa Lund and Genevieve Joseph, make up; David Sandford, graphic design; and Brenda Matthews, Project Manager.  Based on the film, the musical adaptation debuted in 2001 as part of the New York International Fringe Festival and moved off-Broadway the following year. Adapted by Erica Schmidt, music by Andrew Sherman and conceived by Susan L. Schwartz.

The show runs Tuesday thru to Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Previewing Nov. 13 & 14, opening Nov. 15, running thru to Nov. 24 (no evening performance on Nov. 24) at the Media Club (695 Cambie St.) with matinees on Saturday, Nov. 17 & 24 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets purchased for the matinees will benefit McLaren Housing Society.  Debbie will travel to The Odyssey Night Club, (1251 Howe St.), opening Nov. 27 and running to Dec. 15.  For more details visit www.pickledproductions.ca.   No minors please, there are some suggestive scenes. Tickets are $23 in advance, $30 at the door and can be purchased for either venue at www.ticketstonight.ca or by calling Tickets Tonight at 231-7535.

The McLaren Housing Society of British Columbia, founded in 1987, is a non-profit organization that provides safe, affordable housing to men, women and families who live with HIV/AIDS, are in financial need and yet are able to live independently. It is named after Ted McLaren, who was one of Vancouver’s leading advocates for affordable housing for persons with AIDS. To date Pickled Productions has raised over a thousand dollars for them.  They are looking to substantially increase that figure with the proceeds from the matinees on Nov. 17 & 24.

Pickled Productions was created in 2002 by Randie Parliament with one purpose - to create live theatre that provokes and entertains their audiences. Through their productions they wish to raise awareness of the importance of community involvement by partnering with local charities such as McLaren House, and donating partial proceeds from special performances to help and give back.
