A Powerful Political Drama This fall the eyes of the world are riveted on America with good reason. In Stuff Happens, David Hare's powerful play chronicling the extraordinary process leading to the American invasion of Iraq, this statement provides entrée into the melee of diplomacy, political power, and terrorist vendetta still making headlines around the world. The play - whose characters include George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Tony Blair, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and other leading figures - relies on both published records and speculation to address how and why the Iraq war began. The title is inspired by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's response on April 11, 2003, to widespread looting in Baghdad: "Stuff happens, and it's untidy, and freedom's untidy and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things." The Firehall Arts Centre production comes at a particularly poignant time when so much stuff is happening. You won’t want to miss this play that will resonate in history.
