—Production Poster THE DALI HOURS The Dali Hours "Every painter paints the cosmogony of himself". In a quest for eternal youth, a little man embarks on a journey giving him the opportunity to be part of several recreations of Dali’s famous paintings and learn more about his abstract artistry, his anxiety for the scientific and above all, his eternal quest to conquer time. This original physical theatrical creation by the eight-member Maple Salsa Ensemble explores the paintings and writings of Salvador Dali. Inspired by Dali’s surrealistic vision and expansive theories of time, Maple Salsa has crafted a mesmerizing performance full of wit and wonder. Come see Maple Salsa Theatre bring Dali’s art to life using their unique physical style. This performance is for the bold adventurer in all of us, going into the deep dreamscape of Salvador Dali’s timeless paintings. Formed in 2001 by Javier Vilalta and Norma Lewis, Maple Salsa Theatre is a company that seeks to push the boundaries of conventional theatre, looking to produce experimental pieces from all over the world, challenging audiences to see their own humanity through the eyes of different cultures. The company has produced several works from the multicultural repertoire: Heiner Muller’s Quartet, Cloud Tectonics by Puerto Rican playwright Jose Rivera, The Laramie Project by Venezuelan Moises Kaufman, and the Calgary premiere of three Spanish classics by Federico Garcia Lorca (Blood Wedding, Yerma and The House of Bernarda Alba) under the title The Lorca Trilogy. In 2005, under the direction of founding member Javier Vilalta, Maple Salsa began devising and creating their own original pieces: Joy (written and performed by company member Norma Lewis), Neruda Nude (performed first at the 2005 Edmonton Fringe Festival and since remounted in Calgary and Mexico City), Macula, and now The Dali Hours.
