—Brad Duffy and Maryanne Renzetti OH THE HUMANITY! & OTHER GOOD INTENTIONS Oh The Humanity! & Other Good Intentions Staircase XI is pleased to present Oh The Humanity! & Other Good intentions, directed by Becky Shrimpton, featuring Maryanne Renzetti and Brad Duffy and Stage Managed by Tim Bellefleur. It runs September 9th-19th as part of the 26th annual Vancouver Fringe Festival. A masterfully witty script, Oh The Humanity! & Other Good intentions examines the nature of human misery through a filter of jet black comedy. It is sure to hit you where it hurts - right in the humanity. From multiple-award winning playwright Will Eno comes the Canadian premiere of Oh! The Humanity! & Other Good Intentions, a series of 5 short plays about people trying to cope with the basic trial of being human among other humans. Two actors craft four characters each, including a coach who calls a press conference to explain why his team has lost every game in the season, a video dating service promoting two people that have nothing better to recommend themselves than the fact that they are not visibly bleeding, a pair of photographers attempting to reshoot a graphic war time photo without the original source material, a couple attempting to attend a funeral, or possibly a christening, no, a funeral, with poor results, an airline representative explaining to the families of crash victims what happened to the best of her abilities – despite the fact she lucked, or rather unlocked, her way into the job. Director Becky Shrimpton trained at the University of British Columbia from which she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. In 2005 Becky Directed the sold out gory comedy “ Trey Parker’s Cannibal the Musical” at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. Actor Maryanne Renzetti is a graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. After appearing in the Jessie award winning “True Story”, she appeared in the critically acclaimed and sold out “The Gas Heart” at last year’s Fringe Festival, which makes her a must see for this year’s festival. Staircase XI was formed by Becky Shrimpton and Maryanne Renzetti while training at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England with the goal of presenting bold exciting and challenging theatre. Bringing their intelligence, sass and quirky sense of humour to the Vancouver theatre scene, Becky and Maryanne will make you laugh, and think about why you’re laughing. The Canadian premiere of Will Eno’s, Oh, The Humanity! is the perfect project to highlight their skills and their points of view. Mr. Eno’s unmistakable voice — aggressively stylized, unendingly compassionate, flecked with weird, bleak humor — rings out with arresting originality in this hour-long evening of playfully profound theater. According to Edward Albee, "Will Eno is one of the finest young playwrights I've come across in a number of years”
