— Production poster BLITHE SPIRIT METRO THEATRE PRESENTS BLITHE SPIRIT BY NOEL COWARD Metro Theatre is proud to present Noel Coward's pre-eminent farce, Blithe Spirit. An instant hit when it was first presented in 1941, it was revived a couple of seasons ago on Broadway. The story concerns Charles Condomine, a wealthy novelist who invites eccentric medium Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a seance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his temperamental first wife, Elvira. She is materialized during the seance. Elvira makes a concerted effort to disrupt Charles' marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who can neither hear nor see the ghost. Charles is dismayed and confused at first, but then starts to enjoy the situation. His current wife Ruth most definitely does not! Elvira has plans of her own, however. Director Gaye Le Page has assembled a strong cast, many new to Metro audiences. In the lead role of Charles is Alexander Keurvorst. His second wife, Ruth, is played by Lisa Gach, last seen a couple of seasons ago (coincidentally) in Haunted. Charles' first wife, the ghostly "Elvira," is portrayed by newcomer Rebecca Husain. Frances Herzer and Dick Pugh (both having appeared in last season's Emma) return as Madame Arcati and Dr. Bradman respectively. Two more newcomers are Barbara Ellison (Mrs. Bradman) and Katie Fournell (Edith). Blithe Spirit previews on May 3 and opens on May 4 at 8 PM. Thereafter, the show runs Thursday to Saturday until June 1. There are also two Sunday matinees at 2 PM on May 12 and May 26. Tickets can be obtained by calling the Metro Theatre Box Office at (604) 266-7191 or online at metrotheatre.com
Metro Theatre is located at 1370 South West Marine Drive, Vancouver.
