Well, if you’re a guy, you buy him a “love list.” Bill is to put pen to paper and come up with a list of 10 qualities that define the perfect woman and according to the Gypsy where Bill’s friend, Leon, made this dubious purchase, she will appear. After much collaboration the list is complete and much to their surprise, she does appear. Bill’s world is turned upside down as he learns more about himself, perfection and the pursuit of happiness. He is the recipient of six Jessie Richardson Awards. Norm Foster (Playwright, Leon) was born in Newmarket, Ontario on St. Valentine's Day. Upon completion of his studies, he began a radio career that would span 25 years and which would take him from Thunder Bay to Winnipeg to Kingston and finally to Fredericton, New Brunswick. It was in Fredericton in 1980 that Norm was introduced to the world of theatre. Foster fell in love with the theatre right then and there, and two years later he penned his first professionally produced play, Sinners. His next effort, the highly successful, The Melville Boys, would go on to be produced across Canada and in the United States, including a well-received run off-Broadway in New York. It would become Foster's signature play, and the one which would bring his name to the forefront of Canadian theatre. Since then, he has produced an astonishing output of work. Nearly forty plays in all, including The Affections of May, the most produced play in Canada in 1991. He has also written a musical with composer Leslie Arden (The Last Resort) and four musicals with composer Steve Thomas (Jasper Station, Race Day, Sitting Pretty, and One Moment). Cailin Stadnyk (Justine) was last seen at the Playhouse in Fiddler on the Roof. She has worked for most of Western Canada’s top theatre companies where some of her favorite shows have included Evil Dead The Musical, Nursery School Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Coriolanus, Company, Cabaret, Waiting for the Parade, Urinetown, Sylvia, and Gypsy. Cailin was nominated for a Jessie for her role in Singin’ in the Rain and won an Ovation Award for her portrayal of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, both for The Arts Club Theatre. When not onstage, Cailin keeps busy as a lead female motion capture artist for various animation companies. THE CREATIVE TEAM Max Reimer (Director) is delighted to work with Norm Foster once again having previously directed Norm in Strawberries in January (not written by Norm Foster!) and The Foursome (Theatre Aquarius). Prior to returning to Vancouver last year as the Artistic Managing Director of the Playhouse, Max was the Artistic Director of Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton for whom he directed other plays written by Norm Foster: the premiere of Self-Help (also to Stage West); The Long Weekend (also to Kingston Grand and Theatre in Port); Jasper Station (also to Thousand Islands Playhouse); Office Hours (also to River Run Centre); The Foursome (also to Stage West and Drayton Entertainment); The Love List, Opening Night, The Last Resort, and Looking. As an Artistic Director of Huron Country Playhouse, Theatre Aquarius, and now the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company, Max has programmed over 150 Canadian plays – 60 of which were on the main stages of major regional theatres.
