A startling dissection of cruelty and artistic creation from the author of In The Company of Men & Your Friends and Neighbours. How far would you go for love? What concessions would you make? What price would you be willing to pay? Such are the painful questions explored by Neil Labute in his play The Shape of Things – a modern-day telling of the fall of man. After a chance meeting in a museum, Evelyn, a sexy, aggressive artist, and Adam, a shy, insecure student, become embroiled in an intense affair that soon veers into the kind of dangerous, seductive territory that Labute does best. Only in the final and shocking exhibition, which challenges our most deeply entrenched ideas about art and love, does Evelyn reveal her true intentions. Twenty-Something Theatre had its debut last summer with a hugely successful production of Kenneth Lonergan’s “This Is Our Youth.” A West Coast premiere, the production ran from August 18 – September 2 at Presentation House in North Vancouver. Audiences raved and theatre critics applauded the talented young actors: “[Timothy] Johnston's performance as Warren is really splendid; he paints a charming, credible picture of a young kid struggling to figure it all out...and encourages us to hope his character will come through it all. It's an interesting journey that Warren takes and Johnston leads us along with skill and sensitivity” - Jo Ledingham, Vancouver Courier “As Jessica, [Kirsten] Kilburn’s defensiveness the day after the champagne-hotel room “event”, contrasted nicely with her flirty persona of the previous day, and she looked prim and perky, 80s style, in both her outfits, a green cinch-waist dress, and a bright red mini” - Gillian Lockitch, immediatetheatre.com Back again this year, Twenty-Something Theatre has put together another outstanding group of young actors. Joel Sturrock, in the role of Adam, has mostly been seen in film & television and is a graduate from the Canadian College of Performing Arts. Julie McIssac, who plays Adam’s love interest, has been seen in Emily at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond and enjoyed a year long acting apprenticeship at the Chemainus Theatre in Duncan. Rounding out the cast is Lisa Aaesbo, in the role of Jenny, who is currently training at Capilano College in the theatre program and Jon Lachlan Stewart, who was last seen playing the hilarious Verezzi in George F. Walker’s Zastrozzi.
