Studio 58 presents THE ASH GIRL
Retelling of Cinderella myth opens 43rd season

Studio 58, the nationally renowned professional theatre training program at Langara College, kicks off the 43rd season with THE ASH GIRL, a lyrical retelling of the Cinderella myth written by acclaimed British playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker. Director Sarah Rodgers (Driving Miss Daisy, Pacific Theatre; My Fair Lady, Gateway Theatre) combines forces with the stellar design team of Bryan Pollock (Guys & Dolls, Madwoman of Chaillot), Barbara Clayden (San Diego, Dogeaters), Itai Erdal (The Waiting Room, Madwoman of Chaillot) and Karin Konoval (The Elephant Man, Pacific Theatre& Under Milkwood, Freddy Wood Theatre) to create an imaginative, dream-like world in which THE ASH GIRL will come to life.

Ashgirl lives hidden away in a big old house deep in the protection of her ashy hearth. With her mother dead and her father away, she lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters. When the invitation to the ball arrives from the prince, Ashgirl finds the strength to go with the help of her unusual friends, including an owl and an otter. When she returns home she realizes that in order to regain the happiness she found in the arms of the prince, she must fight the monsters such as Angerbird and Envysnake who have slithered their way into her heart and mind. The familiar Cinderella story is revamped in this exciting, contemporized version appropriate for the entire family!
