World Premiere of I Lost My Husband comes to Gateway Theatre.
Gateway Theatre is happy to present the world premiere of the English-language version of I Lost My Husband, Catherine Léger's rollicking and ribald tale of love and loss.
When aging party girl Evelyn loses her husband in a bar bet, things look grim. But as Evelyn's life opens up in new and unexpected directions, she comes to realize that maybe her husband is better off staying lost. Under the wickedly incisive direction of Diane Brown, and featuring an all-star cast including Meghan Gardiner (Evelyn), Agnes Tong (Melissa), Curtis Tweedie (William), and Raugi Yu (Steve the Dealer), this irreverent tale takes on new resonance as an ode to female independence and emancipation.
"Behind its eccentric premise, and the great bursts of laughter that it provokes, lies a script that tackles some of the big, super-current issues in an original way." – Jeu Magazine
Ruby Slippers Theatre commissioned the English language translation of Catherine Léger's hit comedy J'ai perdu mon mari from Leanna Brodie, who beautifully captures the wit and humour of the original work. I Lost My Husband is Gateway Theatre's third collaboration with Vancouver's preeminent theatre company Ruby Slippers. Ruby Slippers previously produced The List in 2016, and You Will Remember Me in 2017.
