Get into the Holiday Spirit with a Timeless Classic at the Gateway Theatre

On Christmas eve, a man wishes he'd never been born, and a wayward angel gets a chance to finally earn his wings. Just in time for the season comes the musical adaptation of the holiday classic It's a Wonderful Life. Based on Frank Capra's beloved timeless story, the Gateway Theatre production features a 10-piece orchestra interpreting holiday favourites and Broadway classics from the 1920s, '30s, and '40s by some of the greatest songwriters of the period, from George and Ira Gershwin to Kurt Weill.

"Growing up, Christmas meant two things: boxes and boxes of Clementine oranges and watching It's a Wonderful Life," says Artistic Director Jovanni Sy (this year playing Mr. Potter). "Frank Capra doesn't shy away from showing us how dire circumstances can crush even the most resilient soul. I think Capra knew that we had to witness George at his absolute lowest point in order to make George's spiritual renewal so profoundly uplifting. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the unceasing torrent of discouraging news, divisive rhetoric, and outrage, and then Clarence reminds me (as he reminds George) that loving friends can help us weather the darkest of times!"

Declared one of the 100 greatest films ever made, this adaptation of It's a Wonderful Life brings new musical and theatrical life to the beloved story. A beautiful experience for the entire family, and an important reminder that, "no man is a failure, who has friends." Travel with us to Bedford Falls for a joyous journey that will have you checking for Zuzu's petals in your own pockets and make you believe that every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.

"If you like old-fashioned charm, the kind that makes you feel all warm and runny inside, this one's for you." - Hamilton Spectator
