Renegade Arts Co Brings You Back to the 80's in the Tenth Anniversary Production of Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages takes you back to the 80's, when everything was big - big bands with big dreams, big sounds and even bigger hair! The songs of Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Poison, Jefferson Starship, Styx, and other great bands underscore a tale of big dreams in Hollywood.
With timely precision, Renegade Arts Co presents the tenth anniversary production of Rock of Ages by award-winning writer Christopher D'Arienzo, June 27-July 6, 2019 at The Metro Theatre.
"After spending most of the 80's in bars just like The Bourbon, playing the timeless songs of all these great bands, I've always wanted to bring this incomparable era back to life. It was a time of big sounds, huge dreams, and all the glory and debauchery that went with it," says producer Jim Buckshon.
Soon after hopping off a bus from the Midwest, aspiring actor Sherrie Christian immediately finds herself in trouble. Coming to her rescue is Drew, a bar-back at the legendary club the Bourbon Room. With stars in their eyes, the young lovers chase their dreams, but a misunderstanding involving rock god Stacee Jaxx threatens to tear them apart.
The cast is made up of extraordinary Vancouver actors. Victor Hunter (Lord Farquaad in TUTS' Shrek, Emmett in Align Entertainment's Legally Blonde) plays Drew, Synthia Yusuf (Heather in Gently with a Chainsaw Artists' Collective's Heathers: The Musical and Arts Club's production of Beauty and the Beast) plays the star-struck Sherrie. Scott Walters who performed extensively in Mirvish's production of We Will Rock You plays the rock god Stacee Jaxx and Maddy Suddaby (from Mirvish's production of Kinky Boots) plays the wise role of Justice. Plus an incredible ensemble of 14 triple threats have been handpicked to portray the multiple additional characters in the show.
Rock of Ages is directed by Chris Adams, whose most recent notable productions were the Sold-Out run of the Snapshots Collective's Sweeney Todd and Bring on Tomorrow Co's production of 13: The Musical. The creative team also includes Music Director Kerry O'Donovan (Renegade Art's Co's production of HAiR), choreographer Nicol Spinola (TUTS productions of Cinderella and Mary Poppins), set designer Brian Ball, lighting/sound designer Stephen Bulat, and costume designer Donnie Tejani.
