Gateway Theatre Presents an Inspiring Journey Through Métis History
Where Have All the Buffalo Gone?
Brings Stories of Music and Vivid Storytelling to Studio B

This compelling play by Tai Amy Grauman offers a powerful and poetic journey through pivotal moments in Métis history. This intimate, 50-minute performance follows two souls as they traverse seven important moments in Métis history—beginning with the birth of Métis nations on the plains, through the fur trade and the disappearance of the buffalo, to the rise of the Métis Association of Alberta. The story weaves together historical events, cultural memory, and a life-like buffalo puppet to celebrate love, loss, resilience, and the rich lessons carried by the buffalo.

Staged in the intimate Studio B at Gateway Theatre, this production uses vivid storytelling, striking visual elements, and dynamic physical performance to honour Métis traditions, and sparks meaningful conversations about identity, culture, and belonging. Adds Barbara Tomasic, Gateway Theatre Executive Artistic Director, "Where Have All the Buffalo Gone? has been a huge hit across Canada, and we are thrilled to bring this beautiful story to Gateway for our Family Day show."

Presented as part of Gateway Theatre's 2025/26 season, this Theatre for Young Audiences production is recommended for ages 9 and up and is an enriching complement to Family Day celebrations. The evocative narrative engages both younger and older audience members. With opportunities for group and school bookings, the show provides an accessible and educational experience for classrooms and families alike.

Tickets are $23 for adults, $13.50 for youth and can be purchased online or by calling the Gateway Theatre box office. This show is recommended for ages 9 and up.

About Gateway Theatre
Gateway Theatre is "A Stage for Richmond", providing a platform for the whole community to contribute to and benefit from the performing arts. It's a place where we can all learn from each other, see ourselves represented, and take pride in the rich cultural landscape that Richmond has to offer. Gateway provides entry points for audiences and performers in three key areas: Artistic Offerings, Education, and Community Rentals. Through our Artistic Offerings, we produce a breadth of stories that tackle the ideas, values, and issues which reflect the diverse people of this city. We bring people together through shared artistic experiences that encourage dialogue and exchange. Our Education programming connects youth to the performing arts, including offering classes in acting, singing, and dancing. Where it is most transformative is beyond the stage, building confidence, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging in young people. Our Community Rentals program allows Richmond to celebrate its achievements, with thousands of people coming through our doors each year to participate in events put on by the public.  We are excited to be bringing Richmond together through the performing arts.
