Metro Theatre Marks Jane Austen’s 250th with a Festive Sequel,
Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley

Metro Theatre celebrates Austen’s milestone year with a witty and romantic holiday production — a fresh, heartwarming take on the world of Pride and Prejudice that brings new life, laughter, and Regency elegance to the Vancouver stage.

Metro Theatre marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth with a festive new production of Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, running November 7–29, 2025. Written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon and directed by Catherine Morrison, this charming sequel to Pride and Prejudice revisits the Bennet family for a holiday gathering filled with wit, romance, and rediscovery.

Set two years after the events of Austen’s beloved novel, the play shines a light on Mary Bennet, the overlooked middle sister who finally takes center stage. When Mary meets the equally bookish Arthur de Bourgh, their shared passion for science and reason sparks an unexpected connection. But when duty, propriety, and misunderstanding threaten to keep them apart, Mary must find the courage to speak her truth and claim her own happiness.

Morrison envisions the production as “a Jacquie Lawson Christmas card — you press play and a beautiful world opens up.” With its stately setting, handcrafted costumes, and warm-hearted storytelling, the play transports audiences to a world “filled with grace and beauty,” where love and self-discovery unfold against an elegant Regency backdrop.

“I love the story of these two social misfits who somehow find each other,” Morrison says. “It’s heartwarming and lovely — a true Christmas card of warmth and love, and a refreshing break from the constant stream of negative news we see every day.”

With equal measures of humor and heart, Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley offers a fresh perspective on familiar characters while celebrating Austen’s timeless insight into love, individuality, and the quiet power of self-expression. The production invites audiences to step into a glittering world of romance and reflection — the perfect way to begin the season of goodwill.

Audiences are invited to stay after select performances for an Audience Talk Back with the director and cast on November 14 and 23. These open conversations offer an inside look at the creative process and a chance to connect with the artists behind the production.
