Strength Through Art Network Diversity (STAND) Festival
A festival to amplify and strengthen immigrant and refugee voices through art
The STAND Festival returns for its fourth consecutive year, promising an awe-inspiring celebration of art, culture, and diversity. From November 1 to 17, 2024, the festival will once again transform the cities of North Vancouver and Vancouver into a vibrant hub of artistic expression, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the rich stories and talents of immigrant and refugee artists. This year, the STAND Festival promises an even more enticingexperience with performances and events held in four distinct venues, providing audiences with even moreopportunities to attend.
The STAND Festival, presented by STAND Festival Foundation and Theatre Series co-presented by Presentation House Theatre, emerges as a unique platform that celebrates immigrant and refugee artists' untold stories, vibrant talents, and undeniable passion. Through three dynamic disciplines - Theatre, Music, and Dance - the festival paints a rich tapestry of narratives, emotions, and experiences that transcend geographical borders. But the festival doesn't stop at mere showcase. Recognizing the unique challenges immigrant and refugee artists face, STAND includes an array of knowledge-sharing workshops. These curated sessions aim to empower participants, equipping them with the tools, insights, and networks to navigate and thrive in their artistic journeys.
Join us every November as we stand in solidarity, appreciate unparalleled artistry, and, most importantly, listen to the powerful voices that resonate with strength, diversity, and unity.
This year, we have greetings from STAND funders at the beginning of our program:
- The honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage
- The honourable Lana Popham, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport
- Dr. See-Hoon Stan Chung, Chair of BC Arts Council
- Ken Sim, Mayor of Vancouver
- Linda Buchanan, Mayor of North Vancouver
- Mark Sager, Mayor of West Vancouver
The Honorable Pascale St-Onge (Minister of Canadian Heritage), praised the STAND Festival, stating, "Our government is pleased to support cultural gatherings, like STAND, that promote inclusion and highlight diversity. We know how important it is to amplify the voices of newcomer artists and allow them to share their knowledge, passion and experience. "

Join us as we stand together, united through art, at the STAND Festival 2023.
In the spirit of storytelling, we pause to honour the ancient and contemporary narratives of this land. We stand upon the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.Just as we celebrate the diverse voices of immigrant artists, we recognize the First Peoples who have woven this place's first and enduring tales. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. As we come together from many corners of the world, may we always remember, respect, and learn from the stories that this land holds.
