Refugee women arrive in Greece, fleeing their homeland and the threat of unwanted marriage. Will they be welcomed, or sent back to Egypt? To whose laws are they subject? Can the gods offer hope? Aeschylus' tragedy from 463 BC looks to find meaning in forced migration, and asks what our obligation is to those fleeing sexual violence and seeking some sense of security. This is not a play about individuals, but about masses of people crossing borders in desperation, and not always being accepted when they arrive.
The Suppliant Women stars, as the Danaids, Noella Ansaldi, Jessica-Jean Braun, Sally Clark, Mika DeNeige, Breanne Doyle, Dahlia Kerr, Amy Laity, Islay McKechnie, Valerie Neduha, Kaelee Steele, and Tara Webster, with Douglas Abel, Jeremy Burtenshaw, Isidro Rodriguez and Jake Anthony. It is directed by Adam Henderson, with composer Tim Gerwing, technical direction by Michael Methot, lighting design by Jacob Wam, costume design by C.S. Fergusson-Vaux, set design by John R. Taylor, sound design by Zakk Harris, masks by Kimira Bhikum, props by Linda Begg, stage management by Andy Sandberg and is produced by John Harris.
